Senior Portrait FAQs: Four Things You Need to Know
If you are looking for Senior Portraits, you most likely have a few questions about the process. Senior Year is a Milestone, and Senior Portraits commemorate it beautifully. To help you out, I have pulled four Senior Portrait FAQs.
When should you schedule your senior portrait session? What should you wear? How long is the session. What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate? As a senior photographer, these are some of the most common questions I hear from high school seniors and their parents. Below you’ll find answers to a few of my most frequently asked questions about senior portraits to help you prepare for a fun, relaxed, and memorable photo experience.
Senior Portrait FAQs 1: When Is The Best Time For Senior Portraits?

First, be sure to check with your school to see when the Yearbook image needs to be submitted. That critical piece of information will help you determine the very latest date for submittal. The majority of my Senior Portrait clients book their appointment from the June of their Junior year through the Fall of Senior year. Of course there are exceptions, but generally, this has been what works for most people. Booking early gives you the opportunity to have a larger selection of dates and times.
Senior Portrait FAQs 2: What Should I Wear?

Again, be sure to first check with your school to see if there are any specific requirements for your Yearbook submission. Some schools want that traditional Yearbook look of the black “drape” for girls and suit for boys against a studio backdrop. The good news is we have both the backdrop and drape here in our studio and can do that with very little fuss. Other than that, I do recommend at least one clean, classic look for a few photos. Layers are great for variety. And anything you love that expresses who you are!
Senior Portrait FAQs 3: How Long Is The Session?

We generally schedule an hour and a half for the session. We have found that allows for enough time to travel to a location or two, accomodate a few outfit changes and get the variety our clients have come to expect. We have found that “mini sessions” are simply not the best model for an important milestone session like Senior Portraits. Of course, you can always add more time to your session if you have something exceptional in mind!
Senior Portrait FAQ 4: What If The Weather Is Bad?

Weather is going to weather. LOL. That is why we do not over book our calendar. We will reschedule your session if the weather is awful. We don’t love it anymore than you do. And our equipment doesn’t like it either!
