Should You Hire A Professional Photographer Or Just Use A Cellphone?

Can You vs. Should You–the Eternal Dilemma

In Life, there are situations where you technically “can” do something, but perhaps you should not.  For example, I could probably cut my own hair.  But should I or would I?  Probably not.  The same is true for occasions when you need photos of a milestone event or for your business.

Should You Hire A Professional Photographer Or Just Use A Cellphone?

Let’s face it–Smartphones are here to stay.  And they keep getting better and better in terms of quality.  So why should you hire a Professional Photographer?

What Does A Pro Photographer Bring To The Table?

Professional Photographer vs Cellphone
Understanding posing, lighting and composition plus having a pro studio set up halps me deliver high quality results to my clients.

A Professional Photographer not only brings great gear, they have a skill set that includes experience in lighting, posing, composition and more.  They also have the intangible experience of having been in certain situations before which can translate into working quickly and efficiently.  A pro can help you make your “dream” shots into a reality.  A trained eye is invaluable.

A Professional Photographer also has access to state of the art retouching and editing tools.  They can cull and edit quickly without getting too emotionally involved.

Don’t Give In To Temptation!

I know it can be tempting to just plan a photo session on the spur of the moment, especially if you are a photo enthusiast.  After all, everyone loves a fun and creative process.  And it is so easy when you have that mobile phone right at your fingertips.

However, aren’t some things just better left to Professionals?  Haven’t we all had the experience of attempting something then being disappointed with the final result and having to call in a pro after all?

Consistency Is Key

This young man wanted to do some of his Senior Portraits in the Auto Museum in Saratoga. Knowing I would need supplemental lighting from past experience made this session quick, easy and fun–with a unique and cool final photo!

The major advantage of hiring a Professional Photographer is CONSISTENCY.  Pros do not capture fabulous images by accident!  The experience a true professional brings is the ability to consistently produce high quality photos even in difficult or unusual circumstances.  Personally, I rarely walk into a location that has absolutely perfect conditions.  Many times, I need to use supplemental lighting or think totally out of the box to bring a client’s final vision to life.  Having the necessary tools and skillset lets me consistently produce images that clients are in love with.

Cell phone or professional? A great question that you help to answer wonderfully. Hiring a professional will certainly give you consistency in your images

Thanks!

Yes!!! All of this is so true! Your iPhone can create decent photos, but is it consistent? How are the skin tones? There are so many things that a photographer helps with beyond just the camera settings. Having a professional to help you pose, choose clothing, and ensure that every image has proper lighting.
